Artist Statement
This piece that I wrote speaks a lot about how i overcame being homeless with a horrible past, to being a champion with a promising future. It tells you who I am as a person, about where I’m from, how i turned my worst moment into a triumphant one, and why I do what I do. It brings forth the ability to believe and stay grounded in your dreams and ambitions. For me not to be very open and be afraid to speak about my past and my problems, this piece of work allows me to express myself and tell the most important part of my life with no hold backs and no second guessing. Bio
I am Johnathan McDonald aka Jayy. I am 22 years old and from Dallas Texas. I am now officially a former student of Laney college, i played football for them and obtained many championships including a National State Championship. I grew up in the slums of dallas, a area called Oak Cliff, south side. Not alot of people make it out where im from because at a young age you get sucked into the lifestyle. I am writing to show that my people where im from can be more then a statistic in society.
